When you’re a parent, you’re always looking for something to do with your kids. If you live in the North... well the colder months make it even harder to find. It’s too cold to play outside, when you have smaller kids that desire to find that perfect activity to tire them out and not break the bank is strong, to say the least.
The newest mall to open back in October 2019, may have solved that problem on so many levels. The American Dream Meadowlands Mall is a retail and entertainment complex, located in East Rutherford, NJ. This mall will boast over 450 stores (who needs retail therapy 🤔), with at least 5 food courts; containing over 100 places to eat. But I’m not here to tell you about that... nope. Let’s talk about the 4 indoor activity areas each amassing large amounts of space to occupy your smallest to biggest child (yes... that includes you too).
First up Nickelodeon Universe... where everyday is the best day ever! From your favorite Nick Jr characters, rides for all sizes and fun activities designed to keep your little ones occupied. Now don’t get upset if your child is more interested in climbing on the slime molds, running around the play area with other kids their height, or just sliding off of walls. Trust me you’ll thank me later (mine was out like a light before I even pulled off from the parking lot)! For those of us, who don’t enjoy the never ending “mommy can I play this”, “daddy can I have that,” you’ll find solace here. There are no games inside of the Universe. Once you enter - you won’t be nickeled and dimed. The only extra you’ll pay is for snacks and beverages. Entry starts at $44.99 and is not based on age. Height and thrill are the only two factors on why you would choose one entry pass over the other.
Next up is their indoor Ice Skating Rink. The NHL Regulation size rink is open and ready for fun! I’ve never been big on ice skating, because well, I honestly don’t like the ice or the cold. But this rink, left me filled with the desire to come back soon and give it a try. It’s a nice family activity or even good for a date night. Best part is... it’s not expensive. For a day session the cost is $19 per person for ages 11 & up; $12 for 3-10; free for 2 & under. Skate rental is $6 per person with helmet included.
I didn’t get a chance to the ”Big Snow” where every day is a snow day. However, the possibilities seem endless. Big SNOW boasts big fun for everyone in your entire family. From beginners to experienced skiers this winter wonderland is bringing your ski mountain fantasy indoors. If you've been dying
to learn how to ski or snowboard... this may just be the place for you to try out the slopes. Rates start at $29.99 & up and varies by date and time.
Last, but certainly not least is the DreamWorks Water Park. The park was originally slated to open in November 2019. However, the opening date was pushed back and is looking to open in mid-February along with the rest of the mall. With over 40 water slides, 15 amazing attractions including the lazy river, wave pool and SurfRiders, will be North America’s largest indoor water park. Park prices are not available yet, but I’m sure the value will out weigh the cost.
So what’s better than the biggest indoor amusement park, ice skating rink, Big SNOW, and an indoor water park (coming soon)? All of that open YEAR round!! These attractions are currently open Sunday - Saturday (on the holidays too) from 10-9 pm (hours of operation may vary on certain days by an hour or two).
Here’s a sweet tip for you... (besides the 2-3 story Candy store that is)... the mall isn’t 100% complete. So, if you visit between now and the actual completion there is no cost for parking. Once the mall is fully operational the cost for parking is free for the first 30 minutes, then $3 for every hour after That’s approx. $24 if you stay for a whole day, which is very possible and not a bad rate where parking is concerned. This place is bound to be a winter paradise for some and a summers dream for others.
